Interview with Kim Carmichael

Can you give us a brief overview of your latest book? Is it part of a series?
Closure explores what happens when you are confronted with that one person who meant the world to you in your past.  What if you get a second chance?  It is a stand -alone book

Do you have a favorite character?
I love Riley because she tries to be all strong, but inside she's soft and squishy.

What is your writing process? Do you listen to music or do you like silence?
I am in the car a lot during the day visiting my accounts so I have playlists I listen to for each story.  When I write I either do it in silence or with Bravo in the background.

Do you outline your story or just go where your muse takes you?
Rough outline and then play it by ear the rest of the way.

Did you hire an editor to review your manuscript before publishing?
Even though I'm with a small publisher, I did hire an editor.  I think it is necessary to the process, no matter what path you take, traditional publishing or self publishing.

Did you hire a graphic artist for your book cover? Were you actively involved in the creation?
My publisher created the cover, but it is me that you see on the cover.  My publisher thought I looked like my character.

What kinds of marketing [twitter, facebook, blog, forums] are you involved with for promoting your book(s)?
I do a lot of blog hops, facebook etc.  I love blog tours and I'm trying some advertising.

Do you find it difficult to juggle your time between marketing your current book and writing your next book?
Yes, the marketing takes more time than the writing.  I try to look at the marketing as a job and relegate it to a few hours per day so I can write and enjoy myself at night.

Besides writing, do you have any other passions?
Shopping – I know that sounds terrible, but I lost 85 lbs a few years ago, and I love shopping because I can fit!

What’s next for you?
I'm finishing my novel and started a new one.  I am also expanding a story that was in an anthology that will be a stand alone.
